More DescriptionLooked at in isolation, each of British artist Merlin James's paintings is, figuratively speaking, a signal box, an appeal addressed to the viewer in a conscious play with the semantic elements of the picture. From September 18 to November 10, 2013, his exhibition Signal Boxwas on view at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. It spanned three decades of his work, representing his range of imagery and genres, as well as his technical and stylistic approaches. Following this exhibition, the second book in the series KW Pocket, Signal Box, was published. The book contains exhibition views, a selection of images of important works, and a conversation between Merlin James and Ellen Blumenstein, chief curator of KW.
