Do you ever feel like your ability to be everything you could be is constrained? Like things just don''t work out for you in the way you hoped? Maybe it feels like there''s a force or pressure on you that holds you back or keeps you average?
Working with thousands of sales people at Sales Academy has provided clues as to how and why this happens and perhaps most importantly where to look and what to do to make changes. The answer is not what you are looking for but it works.
Time and again we found that intelligent well meaning people were held back by their own internal self imposed limitations. It was almost like whatever they did, however hard they worked, something was wrong and somehow their efforts and their results didn''t reveal the real person who was trying so hard. Most people know success is about being smarter. In our experience this is not as straightforward as you might think. It is not about formal education or academic qualifications and we found many of the best educated delegates had not achieved the success they expected or hoped for. Often it seemed that the formal education had left them stuck in their ways, stuck in their beliefs and unable to compete with those who were wired to make better and different choices. The story is about choices, your choices. Choices that create a model of how things work that then dictates what you see, your analysis and your subsequent choice of action.
Our characters have made different choices about what they believe to be true. They do things they can''t explain and hang on to patterns of failure. The story line reveals options that nibble away at our own programming and opportunities for us to consider how things really work. In turn this provides an opportunity for new more carefully considered options to take root. Options and choices that will determine future performance and our ability to enjoy things as they are now. If you are working hard and not getting what you want then working even harder won''t help. Your answer has to be different. Most of our delegates who examined their model found it lacking, out of date and not fit for purpose. It typically comprised of old rules, old thinking and old beliefs that failed to provide the best basis for success. This story is a tale of a journey towards success, whatever that means for you. It''s multi-layered, written to give your brain a makeover and the space to make sure your operating rules, your model of how things work will actually work for you.
Every story has at least one hero and the obvious and hidden choices our hero faces allow him to survive and thrive or not. To write his own story or bow to the pressure of circumstance and the intentions of well meaning others. In many ways, he is like all of us, living day to day with no owner''s manual for the body and mind he has inherited. On the journey he meets other people who think about the world differently.
Their experiences and conclusions are different, from the Fisherman who is focussed on how he uses each of his seconds to Haamid who spends regular time looking at things differently, each meeting gives us clues to the choices we could make if what we do now is not giving us all that we want.
This story lets you evaluate your own thinking, beliefs and choices. It gives you the chance to review and rewire some of the things you do now that are holding you back. Every time you read this story it will appear to change, providing new moments that reach out to you providing options for change to suit the life you want to live.
If you are looking for something the chances are you will find it somewhere in the pages of this book. If you are one of the lucky ones content with what you have and what you are, this story will give you the confidence to continue to do it your way, a way that primarily works for you. We hope you''ll like it.
