More DescriptionMonsoon Reflexions is a collection of poems by Abdulaziz Y. Lodhi extracted from his published and unpublished collections TAFKIRA - Majaribio ya Ushairi (Reflections - experiments in poetry), Writers' Bookmachine, Stockholm, 1984; the manuscript of Liyongo's navel (An East African Epic Experience), July 2007; and the manuscript of Malenga wa Mkunazini (The Bards of Mkunazini, Zanzibar), April 2013. The poems are translated from Zanzibar Swahili into East African English by the author himself. In this edition of Monsoon Reflexions, Lodhi reveals a lot about a Thinking Migrant who perpetually evokes rapt nostalgia in the adopted land. Lodhi has shown that those in the diaspora remember their birthplaces when they are in deep personal thoughts either privately or collectively as a group. This is indicative of their struggle to try to be in harmony with their multiple identities with regard to ethnicity, religion, culture, language, literature and social inclusion in the new land. Lodhi´s code switching, in this collection of Monsoon Reflexions, exemplifies further the fulfilment of the right communication wavelength of those in diaspora, making them feel at home in the new homeland and also keep them connected to the old country.
