More DescriptionThis book of poetry was driven by the 2019 COVID Pandemic. At this publishing more than 700 thousand people have died in the US alone, while worldwide the number has reached more than 5 million (National Geographic). The title of the book, More than Conquerors, was designed to give people hope. It comes from a verse in the book of Romans (8:37) of the Holy Scriptures. Dr. Turner writes, "We, as a global community, are a resilient people who have experienced devastation in every form--fire, flood, hurricane, disease, human chattel slavery, genocide, terrorism, and war--yet through His grace we have conquered fear and uncertainty and survived.
These are the author's reflections in poetic form, of encounters with the 2020-21 Global Pandemic. The poetry, which is referred to as PanPoems, for obvious reasons, are all related to the people and places of the Pandemic in some way. As an astute observer of human behavior, somewhere along the way she decided to write down what she was seeing, hearing, thinking and feeling during the first fifteen months of the Pandemic. Poems, such as "A HUG", "The World is Crying Lord", "My Brother's Keeper", "Your Faith" and "Traumatized", are reflective of observances, thoughts and emotions experienced during that time.
Some might think it peculiar, but Dr. Turner explains that she never set out to write the poems you read here. She believes they were given to her by the Holy Spirit and so with prayer and a few supportive friends she set out to publish this book, a message of hope and better days ahead for all of us.
