We know that just diagnosing IBS, functional dyspepsia, or centrally mediated abdominal pain is not sufficient. There are dimensional differences in the clinical presentation and treatment methods. For example, a patient with IBS-D with mild and occasional abdominal discomfort symptoms and loose stools and functioning without impairment would be treated differently from a patient with the same diagnosis having continuous severe and disabling pain co-morbid anxiety disorder with fears of incontinence when leaving the house. The MDCP method provides a multidimensional personalized approach to understanding and treating any patient with a DGBI.
