He practiced this dialectical symbiosis more emphatically the stronger national particularism in Europe took hold. He was, therefore, an example to composers and pianists all over the world, whether as a counselor, teacher, or as a sponsor with extensive international contacts. This book works through this dialectic in the context of other disciplines and also broadens the perspectives of other composers, who, either from political reasons or on the basis of personal decisions- also stood in a similar way between two or more nations. The justification of national musical cultures shifted less into the foreground than the international exchange, in which these composes essentially participated and which established the preconditions for each particular musical culture.
