I personally have found that many of our African American (blacks) are less interested in knowing their family history. I have heard some say, "that is not worth it", "too much work" and "who cares, it is not going to change anything". More DescriptionI personally have found that many of our African American (blacks) are less interested in knowing their family history. I have heard some say, "that is not worth it", "too much work" and "who cares, it is not going to change anything". I went to the library day and day out for one solid year and I can count on one hand how many of our African Americans visited. I discovered in my research that it was different and difficult. Different, because the librarian had no clue of where to tell me where to begin. They would all apologize for the lack of research that was available. Difficult because as we all know the eve of the Civil War African Americans (blacks, colored, N/negroes) were subjugated (enslaved), meaning they were brought under control and governance as property of another race. The monopoly or the exclusive ownership through legal privilege of the 1662 Royal African Company was withdrawn. The Royal African Company had begun to trade in slaves (as objects) and was given a charter or a written instrument or contract (as a deed) executed in due form. Slavery in the colonies or a body of people living in a new territory but retaining ties with the parent state were abolished or destroyed in 1834 (2013-1834=179 years ago). The 18th century was a dead end for African American history as far as research goes. Some parts of my family tree was more generalized than detailed. Sadly, there was never a discrimination or segregation in Britain. Names of slaves generated from slave owners in SOME cases.
