Wyomia Tyus, born in Griffin, Georgia, USA on Wednesday the 29th of August 1945, now retired, was an American track and field sprinter, who became the first-ever person to win back-to-back 100 Metre Olympic titles (1964 & 1968) an amazing feat, and to date only emulated by Carl Lewis, Gail Devers, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Usain Bolt.
Wyomia Tyus, representing Tennessee State University at the age of 19 went to the Olympics and equaled Wilma Rudolph's 100M world record in the heats and went on to win her first Olympic gold medal, beating fellow American Edith McGuire by 0.2 seconds. Tyus also picked up a silver medal as part of the 4 x 100M relay team.
