What do YOU think? Could anyone really live to 200? As for why YOU should read a book about Africa? Well, it is home to over a billion people, and the cradle of human civilization. So maybe it IS relevant to you. Read it and decide.
THE PRICE: We know it's expensive, but it has over 120 color pictures, and 40 illustrations and maps. Color printing costs a lot. If the price is too high for you, try the eBook for $5.99. But if you like Africa, then treat yourself to the book.
My Two Centuries in Africa is a humorous, affectionate, unconventional new book about Africa. It's a travel book and a memoir. It's got adventure, and a peek into the daily lives of a billion people who are mostly ignored by the rest of world.
It's also an emotional roller-coaster of excitement, danger, love, loss, and salvation. It's an effort to debunk racist nonsense propagated by early White explorers, greedy colonialists, and big game hunters over the past 300 years.
Is Africa all poverty, war, disease, and corruption? Not true, despite what you may hear on the nightly news. Or is it just a big wildlife safari park full of wild animals, like the package deal the travel agents want to sell you?
Africa is a lot more than any of that. Are you nervous to go to Africa? Is Africa a dangerous place, only for the adventurous? Not so. I went. You can too. Are you a stay-at-home type? Africa is for you, too. Even if in a book.
Curious about foreign aid, espionage, and Western interference in Africa? This book reveals the madness.
Are you a misfit, like me? This is about how one of your own went to Africa - and found himself.
Most importantly, the author met and got to know real people in Africa: his friends and colleagues. Read some of their amazing profiles. Many people in Africa face enormous obstacles in life, yet they overcome them and succeed.
After reading this book, you should have a more realistic understanding of modern-day Africa, and the people who live there. Feel confident that you could go there, meet people, and make new friends. Not just see the wild animals.
By the way, the author did not want to show the usual exotic images of Africa on the cover. You know, the masks. the people in tribal dress, the wild animals, the tall grass. If you want to see that, you will have to look elsewhere. Sorry.
