More DescriptionThis manual is written as a definitive guide to ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks (PNBs) and interventional analgesia techniques. The manual aims to provide complete and strictly practical information on the standardized, clinically most applicable techniques. Instead of burdening the reader with a plethora of literature or theoretical considerations, the manual features only highly practical, richly illustrated information. Since the practice of regional anesthesia combines medicine and art, this book was envisioned as a piece of art. Hence, the choice of black background color and design as integral works of art contributing to the format, look and feel of the book. Ultrasound-guided PNBs have become mandatory in ambulatory, orthopedic, and vascular surgery. All interventional analgesia techniques featured in the manual are essential components in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and opioid-free anesthesia protocols. The use of ultrasound to monitor the needle-nerve relationship and distribution of the local anesthetic has allowed for reproducible accuracy and reproducibility of PNB techniques. Resultantly, regional anesthesia is taught in all anesthesia training programs. The ability to visualize anatomy and fascial sheaths, however, has also led to the development of a plethora of new injection techniques. Since the novel techniques often lack validation and standardization in clinical practice, we opted them out in our goal to feature only techniques tested in our routinely applied daily clinical practice at NYSORA. Therefore, we believe that this manual fills the educational void in that it teaches only well-established, effective, and reproducible techniques that can be used to establish regional anesthesia and analgesia service. For this manual's didactic style, we chose a logical flow, richly illustrated with original creatives comprising models, patients, anatomy illustrations, 3-D renderings, sonoanatomy, and NYSORA's Reverse Ultrasound Anatomy (RUA) that simplifies the understanding of ultrasound images.
