It both recalls Scott's achievement and suggests its continuing value by focusing on the question of Scott's method. Rather than following the traditional interpretation of Scott as a literary critic employing Paul Tillich's theology of culture, this book proposes that Scott's work is best understood as a form of fundamental theology. In doing so, it suggests that Scott's work models ways in which literary texts may be appropriately incorporated into theological discourse.
