More DescriptionPart Two of DOPS III opens with Cass taking Vance's Yellow Poppy Journal to show Annie and Kevin, who have already had their share of oddities in the encounter with the monstrous centipede-like creature which Todd persists in recreating in disturbing artwork. Cato at his friends' behest takes both journal and latest painting to a council meeting at The Village, with unnerving results. Thwarted in her attempts to secure Stubbins' championship, Kippie and too-adventurous dog club friend Aaron Saperstein use dad Lou's photocopy of the Journal to embark on a most unwise expedition that nearly costs them their lives but also makes plain the dangers of continuing to ignore what's going on under the feet of Mount Bracken, Hunters Run and Anglehorn. Twitch solves a decades-old mystery which has caused a rift between Cato and his father, Morgan, while Lawrie begins to have emotional relapses into guilt over incidents from his youth and long-concealed past which have haunted him. Abel must make an unfortunate decision which is highly unpopular with the crew of the Claire du Monde in order to better understand a way to victory over current oppressors and mastery of things from his past which plague him; Ramon meanwhile in his grief makes an unfortunate discovery which may nevertheless provide Hugo, Evito, Tia and Tumac with certain answers as regards the history and nature of their beloved Deliverer of history and legend.
