Unwilling to hospitalize the children and risk deportation, he gets them out of town to die their tortured deaths. Whatever killed them is mysterious, uncontrollable, and ready to sweep across the region. The only person who can stop the impending epidemic is Kiernan O'Shaughnessy, medical examiner turned private detective, who once led a losing fight against a similar disease in Africa.
