The Feast of All Souls on November 2 is also known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. Many parishes have a special service to remember those who died. This beautiful service provides assurance that there is something more than the grave. John 3:16 summarizes the readings for November 3. "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that all who believe in him might have eternal life." The reading from Wisdom calls us to surrender our will to God. 2 Thessalonians encourages us to release our fear by trusting in God. November 10 celebrates those who choose God above all else. 2 Maccabees tells of the gruesome fate of the seven brothers who refuse to deny God. They put their hope in the resurrection, where the customs of this life are irrelevant. November 17 Malachi tells us that the just belong to God. 2 Thessalonians cautions us to avoid those who walk in disorder because they may lead us astray. In the Gospel, Jesus addresses those who want to know the exact end of the world. The final Sunday of the year is November 24. We celebrate the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We join the condemned is asking, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."
