More DescriptionA facsimile edition of the artist book created by James HD Brown in 2016 with a selection of 108 orb paintings made by the Artist in his Merida studio (Mexico), between the years 2014-2016. He only painted the orbs between 6pm and 12 midnight, never the daytime. The images that are used to support the orb paintings in the ORB book are related to building, construction, furniture, porcelain fine and simple, deep space, crystals and minerals, interiors, both household and industrial. Note that on both sides of the exact center of ORB the pages and their layout are a studied mirror image. As one leaves the gatefold, one is taken on a reverse visual journey. ORB is much like a Rorschach test in book form. All associations and juxtapositions are intuitive by nature and reflect the guided vision that Mr. Brown adheres too. The frontispiece, a portrait by Tim Walker, was an early element in the construction of ORB. This portrait of a Buddhist monk in meditation was first offered to Mr. Brown by Mr. Walker early on in the execution of the 108 Orb Paintings. That was in 2014. Mr. Brown declined and ask to see the portrait only after the 108 Orb paintings were completed. Mr. Brown foresaw the use of this image as being important: a Buddhist in meditation with an orb appearing on his chest.
