Tanikawa, Shuntaro.
(Author)
|
Tanikawa Shuntaro, son of a professor, emerged from the postwar cataclysm to serve as a self-described emblem of optimism. He enjoys a level of popular and financial success accorded to most Western poets only posthumously. Tanikawa writes poetry, often about the theme of the poet on the frontier, face-to-face with boundlessness; children's works; song lyrics; television and movie scripts; and plays. He has also translated Mother Goose rhymes and the comic strip "Peanuts."
