DUFF HARTMAN is an airline captain with a checkered past. Three days before finalizing his divorce agreement, his wife...also an airline captain...is found murdered. Duff stands trial for the murder but is eventually acquitted. With the help of his best friend, KURT LAMAR, he gets a new airline job and his life gets back on track...for awhile. Duff and his friends steal away in the night with a large sum of money...something like thirty-eight million dollars...and attempt to fly it out of the country using an ingenious deception. Duff and his accomplices face many obstacles: weather, fatigue, low fuel, but most importantly and insidiously, the guilt that wracks Duff.
