More DescriptionPain occurs in many ways. Pain is subjective and unique. Pain is personal. At the same time, pain is universal to us as humans. We all experience some degree of pain. Millions of people around the world experience the same pain and frustration. So pain is the concern of many people. Doctors, health professionals and researchers are working to find a solution to this calamity. Pain is restricting our mobility and flexibility. Pain means energy and vitality down the drain. Pain kills our mood and valuable sleep. Pain does not come alone it is accompanied by inflammation. Chronic pain affects many adults. Pain has become a regular part of their life. As an example, pain follows a cut in our body, a fracture of a bone and surgery.
Chronic pain can interfere with our daily activities, such as working, having a social life and taking care of self or others. It can lead to depression, anxiety and trouble in sleeping, which can make the pain worse. This response creates a cycle that's difficult to break.
Pain is classified as acute when it comes on suddenly and has a specific cause (e.g. a broken bone, a cut, childbirth). Acute pain doesn't generally last longer than 6 months and stops when the cause of the pain is resolved. Chronic pain lasts longer and is still there after the initial cause has been. Sometimes there's no previous injury or apparent damage. Chronic pain can be complex to understand and can affect you physically and emotionally. Examples include headaches, arthritis and back pain.
Chronic pain differs from another type of pain called acute pain. Acute pain happens when you get hurt, such as experiencing a simple cut to your skin or a broken bone. It doesn't last long, and it goes away after your body heals from whatever caused the pain. In contrast, chronic pain continues long after you recover from an injury or illness. Sometimes it even happens for no obvious reason.
Some people also have chronic pain that's not tied to an injury or physical illness. Healthcare providers call this response psychogenic pain or psychosomatic pain. It's caused by psychological factors such as stress, anxiety and depression. Many scientists believe this connection comes from low levels of endorphins in the blood. Endorphins are natural chemicals that trigger positive feelings.
There are several therapies for treating pain. Most are described in this title. Among them, light therapy has an established history as a proven treatment for many different types of pain - acute injuries, chronic pain, joint pain, tendonitis, nerve pain, arthritic pain, without the side effects of common pain medicines. The health of every organ and every cell in the body depends on energy produced by the mitochondria in those cells. When mitochondria produce more energy, our cells perform better i.e. more the merrier.
