He was raised in the bosom of a family made up of a medical father, a mother who had been an opera singer and four sisters - he also had a brother, but it was when he was already sixteen years old -. From a very young age he showed passion for sports, especially boxing; so much so, that he very soon he began to box, leaving him permanent damage such as a broken nasal septum and loss of vision in one eye. As a curiosity, Robert Cohn, one of the characters in Fiesta, is also a boxer and his nasal septum is also broken. In 1918, as a young man of 19 years, Hemingway went to Paris as a Red Cross nurse - remember that, a year ago, the United States had joined the First World War (1914-1918) -. What Ernest really wanted was to fight as a soldier, but he was not allowed to do so due to the lack of vision in his left eye. It was in these months of war that Hemingway saw such terrible things as blood or shattered bodies and, far from feeling displeasure, he felt inebriated by danger and conceived war as a risky sport. On one occasion, Hemingway came very close to death, as a bomb exploded next to him; It was then that he bravely saved the life of a colleague, after which that intoxication that he had felt until then turned into a true addiction due to danger. The happy twentiesIn 1920, Ernest married Hadley - the first of four wives he ever had - and they went to live in Paris. This opened one of the best stages of his life. In this golden age, Hemingway surrounded himself with great artists; And it is that, in Paris, one always finds the right environment to externalize his art. In this bohemian environment, he rubbed shoulders with all those American writers who, after the Great War, emigrated to Europe seeking to develop his art, often pessimistic in nature due to the painful memory of the war. All these authors belong to what is known as the lost generation.Hemingway reflected this bohemian stage of his life in his book Paris was a party, but, without a doubt, I have also found a reflection of it in Fiesta, especially in the first part of the book, when they are in Paris before make the trip.
