Nijaz Cardaklija was born in 1964 in Sarajevo. He studied French language and literature, Italian language and literature, as well as Spanish and Portuguese language at the Universities of Sarajevo Barcelona, Lisbon, and Dijon, obtaining in 1988 a BA in Romance Languages. He also cooperated with the publishing house Svjetlost as a translator and a book reviewer.
