Peggy Kirk Bell was born Margaret Anne Kirk on October 28, 1921 in Findlay, Ohio. She first tried golf at the age of 17. She was a top amateur golfer in the 1940s and 1950s who went on to become an instructor and an advocate for women's golf. She won the Ohio Women's Amateur Championship three times, the 1949 Titleholders Championship, and the 1949 North and South Women's Amateur Championship. She was the first woman inducted to the PGA Golf Instructors Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Bob Jones Award in 1990. Her autobiography, The Gift of Golf, written with Lee Pace was published in 2001. She died on November 23, 2016 at the age of 95.
