Each of Chattman's twenty poems puts another spin on classic horror tropes. In "Misty Blue," a couple gets more than they bargained for on a boat trip. "The Wages of Torment" follows a group of teenagers as they get a strange warning from a sinister apparition. A woman gets the fright of her life in "Pools of Hauntings."

Chattman focuses on the recurring theme of cabins, hotels, and other places of refuge for weary travelers. She warns of seeking security at the expense of common sense.
