The work of Henri Gauguin

Eugene Henri Gauguin was  influential in the post impressionist and synthesist and symbolist art styles as well as the later French avant guard. Though he went largely unrecognized during his lifetime and his works only became popular after his death. During his life he had a meeting with Van Gogh who became fond of is work but it was a difficult relationship. The legacy of his work remains somewhat controversial with some criticizing his sexualized depictions of Tahiti and Polynesians whilst others still revere the originality and unique style of his paintings which capture the vibrancy and life of those places.
