I am in President Akufo-Addo's age group.That is to say I saw a bit of Kwame Nkrumah's Presidency as a teenager, as a Student growing up in Ghana, just like our current President.Like our President, I saw the state of affairs during Kwame Nkrumah's Presidency and the differences after his overthrow in February 1966.I saw a bit of Kofi Baako, a Member of Parliament for Mfantseman (Saltpond and suburbs) Constituency.I saw him from close quarters, very close quarters and saw a man who was completely down to earth, so completely down to earth, came to Saltpond at very regular weekends without creating any ceremony, moving from place to place, household to household without ceremony ,without any fuss.No police man to ensure his security.He was with his people! I also saw tremendous efforts Kofi Baako put into making Saltpond "grow", as he put it.A very honest, humble, truthful, friendly and a hardworking individual.His uncle owned a very small Local Bookshop:-"KRA BIRIBI T]N STORE"(K.B.T.S)He was just as humble, honest as W.E.Arthur, the retired Member Of Parliament he had succeeded.Saltpond (Akyemfo) was a strong C.P.P.stronghold.After all, that was where the U.G.C.C was founded, with Hammond Hall as the meeting place.The long and painful ineffectiveness of the C.P.P.has seen the people split between the parties without any real desire in doing what they do.Committed Party politics, committed party affiliation as they knew it is dead and buried.Very serious apathy has taken over.I did enjoy Kwame Nkrumah's free education, particularly when I lost my Dad when I was in secondary school form two.What would have happened if I hadn't been awarded a bursary here, half scholarship there, free sixth form here and "Millions" during my student days at Legon?I knew how desperate it was then to get someone to be your guarantor after Professor Busia decided to make University students give undertaking to pay the cost of their University education after their studies.I became interested in President Akufo-Addo's pronouncements and felt baffled at the beginning but upon very critical analysis, came to the very satisfactory conclusion that he is a bed fellow!That is why I want the world to know!!
