Using a symptom-oriented approach, Primary Neurologic Care covers the symptoms and disorders most likely to be seen in a primary care setting, including headaches, back and neck pain, epilepsy, dementia, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies, and dizziness. For each disorder, the book covers background and etiology, expected signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests, pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment, prevention and education. For chronic conditions, emphasis is on the control of symptoms and management of the condition. Indications for referral to a specialist are included where appropriate. Chapters on the neurologic examination and diagnostic tests assist the reader in effectively performing the examination and understanding test results.
