Laura Shabott was born on May 21,1957 in Middletown, New York. She soon moved to New Haven, Connecticut where she grew up. After a decade of developing small businesses, she attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, earning a Fine Arts Diploma in 1995. Shabott went on to win awards for both her short film, "The Session", and for the screenplay, "Work", a 2000 finalist in the Massachusetts Film Office Competition.

In 2011, Shabott won a scholarship to hone her writing skills at the renowned artist colony, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. From 2008 to 2012, Shabott wrote "Notes From Lands End", a weekly online column for the website Provincetown.com. This introduction to the power of the Web for global self expression was the catalyst for her new digital book release "Confessions of an eBook Virgin: What Everyone Should Know Before They Publish on the Internet" launched April 2013.
