English summary: Since the classic studies of early Christian pseudepigraphy in the 1960s and 70s, pseudonymity has been a vital question of New Testament scholarship. Yet no comprehensive, new work taking into consideration the many recent developments in the field has been published. Today scholarship demands exacting discussions of ancient parallels, categorizing method and type of authorial fiction and addressing respective functions and legacies. The present volume meets this demand through its examination of a wide range of pseudonymous authorial constructions from Early Judaism to the Greek and Roman world. It features treatments of apocalyptic, Qumran, wisdom and apocryphal literature as well as the ancient letter novel while maintaining a focus on New Testament epistolary literature. The volume covers all NT texts commonly viewed as pseudonymous as well as Hebrews. Its chief aim is to update respected treatments of the past with a fresh awareness of the immense variety of texts and strategies. German description: Versuche der Beurteilung von Pseudepigraphie in der Antike und im Neuen Testament sind zuletzt in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren unternommen worden. In der neutestamentlichen Forschung wurden die aus der Altertumswissenschaft stammenden Anregungen oft einseitig zur generellen Legitimation neutestamentlicher Pseudepigraphie rezipiert, ohne nach einer differenzierten Beurteilung der jeweiligen pseudepigraphischen Fiktion und ihrer Legitimitat zu fragen. Angesichts dieser Situation sollen mit dem vorliegenden Band Problematik und Vielfalt der Pseudepigraphie neutestamentlicher Briefe dokumentiert, die neueren Ansatze zusammengefasst und so die Diskussion weiter vorangebracht werden. Es wird dabei eine reprasentative Breite angestrebt, die nicht nur alle im Neuen Testament als pseudepigraphisch beurteilten Briefe (einschliesslich des Hebraerbriefes) behandelt, sondern den Kontext antiker und fruhjudischer Pseudepigraphie berucksichtigt. So werden auch die fur die Entstehung neutestamentlicher Briefe traditionsgeschichtlich relevanten Bereiche einbezogen, u.a. apokalyptische Literatur, Weisheits- und Testamentenliteratur, apokryphe Schriften sowie der antike Briefroman.
