These unedited letters give us a historical viewpoint and Carmena's present-day reflections both shade and enlarge the long-ago letters. We read the stories of family, animals, God's miracles, and political events as they touched the people, black and white, in the malaria infested lowlands of old Southern Rhodesia. And from South Africa we read the story of the beginning of a new seminary in Pietermaritzburg, a seminary that worked to prepare the next generation of African pastors...black, white, and colored. All this occurred in the midst of South Africa's repressive, inhumane apartheid. This book reflects the grace of God, the mystery of God's working, and most of all, God's love for all people.
