More DescriptionSometimes, we feel as if all signs of cheer are leaving us. It is much like when the sun drops beneath the foliage of a tree or moves behind a mountain. I remember being on my way to the funeral of one of our ministers when we experienced this phenomenon. It had been a bright sunny morning when, all of a sudden, it was almost totally dark. When I glanced toward the eastern sky, I realized we had simply driven behind a mountain peak, hiding the sun. When such events occur on the emotional level, it is easy to slip into despair. It is most helpful to remember a simple lesson I was able to share with the grieving family that day. When we know the darkness is only for a short time and will, without doubt, give way to the warming rays of the sun, our heart can once more beat with hope. This is the message of Psalm 23:4 "Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me."(NLT)
