Pekka Himanen, 27, earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Helsinki at the age of twenty. Since then he has worked there as an endowed researcher into the social effects of the network society and been a visiting scholar at Stanford and Cal Berkeley. He has advised governments, universities, and the world's leading information companies, from Nokia to small start-up IT companies, on human-oriented approaches to the network society.
