Coaching has always been an art form in the world of basketball, and like most art, it evolves but traces its roots from the earlier pioneers of the craft. Of course, coaching always grew from some of the most successful systems, styles, and philosophies in the history of the sport. And as evident as it seems, dynasties are the result of some of the best coaching styles. History would show that there is no other dynasty more dominant and successful than the 1960's Boston Celtics.

While some would argue that the NBA was not as competitive or big as it was when the league was at its early stages, there can be no disputing that the Celtics of the 60's were utterly dominant. From 1957 to 1969, Boston was home to the NBA championship trophy eleven times, and no other team was as consistent as they were.

Since the league only had a few teams back then, several players of superstar talent were on the same team. The Los Angeles Lakers, San Francisco Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knickerbockers, and St. Louis Hawks all had several stars on their roster. However, not one of those teams could even dethrone the Celtics, and it was not because Boston had the most talented players. The Celtics' team was a combination of skilled, talented, and unselfish players that knew their roles. Best of all, they were coached by a man that brought it all together for them.

Winning nine titles in a span of ten seasons, Red Auerbach was the architect of the Boston Celtics' dynasty during the 1960's. Their players may have been the soldiers out on the court and were just as talented as any other group of ballers in the NBA, but Red spelled the difference for the Celtics.
