John D. Crowley is the director of learning resources and technology at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, Conn. He helped develop the strategic planning process for his school in 1991 and was named Connecticut State Library Media Specialist of the Year by the Connecticut Educational Media Association. Since that time, he has conducted workshops on strategic planning and the role of the library media specialist at conferences across the country. His work with strategic planning helped his school receive the "School of Excellence" distinction from the U.S. Department of Education.
His book, Developing a Vision: Strategic Planning and the Library Media Specialist, published in 1994, discusses his ideas of how strategic planning, with an emphasis on long-range planning, relates to the role of the library media specialist.
