This story is what happened to them during the years they were running from the Military. They met Elizabeth and Marcus Chase on board a paddle Wheeler leaving Memphis and headed to New Orleans. They ended up going to the southern tip of Louisiana looking for a treasure buried by the pirate Jean Laffite. When they left, they had dover a million dollars in gold , silver, jewelry accumulated by three pirates and buried .k In getting away with their treasure . They used maxim Machine guns and killed twenty two men just to get back to a river boat to New Orleans. Romance abounds , when Marcus dies leaving a widow that became close to Duke. This transpires into several romantic interludes of wild and varied sexual desires. Their adventures include a trip up the Missouri River all the sway to Williston , North Dakota and a place known as the Bad Lands. there they experience what happens when Indians are riled and torture their captives. The era of this book is 1865, which includes slavery and the Civil War. there are violent deaths that have occurred, and even where people took the law into their own hands to include hanging, beatings, maiming, torture, and rape.
