More DescriptionRob Peter The Pope devises an ingenious plan to release the hidden assets of the Roman Catholic Church in order to help the poor. He entrusts three elderly monks with his secret mission. Clandestinely, the artisan monks replace gold with bronze while carrying out restoration work. They manage to amass three tonnes of pure gold. Alas, the Pope is dead by then. However, the monks respect his wishes, and set about completing their mission. But nobody inside the Vatican wants to help. Frustrated by the red tape of the Curia, the monks steal the gold. They use the Vatican's own railway to make their getaway. All along the way they follow divine guidance; they are also blessed with good luck, and manage to transport their precious cargo all the way to Monte Carlo. In the process they have to outwit the Polizia Nationale, the Polizia Ferroviale, the Carabinieri, the Stradali and the Guardia di Fianaza. While the forces of law and order scour the Italian countryside, the three monks calmly make their way up the coast to the French border. The last hurdle they face is the most difficult one: how to come up with a legitimate provenance for all that gold. They seek further divine guidance, and a shaft of light from the sky leads them to the gaming tables. They stake everything on the spin of the roulette wheel and break the bank at Monte Carlo. Only they cheat.
