Grosseteste, Robert (Author)
Robert Grosseteste was an important figure in the introduction of Aristotle and the initiator of the Oxford tradition of science. later exemplified in Roger Bacon. His thought, which brought a Neoplatonic reading to Aristotle, is old-fashioned by the standards of the latter half of the century. He held many important positions, being one of the first chancellors of Oxford University and, later, bishop of Lincoln, and was an influential advocate of the Franciscans.
