Max Rossi finds himself involved in the murder of a white singer from the newly opened inter-racial casino, The Moulin Rouge. At the request of a friend, Rossi looks into the matter, only to find that the person accused of killing the singer is a colored man, and in a town known as the Mississippi of the West, that does not bode well. As Rossi begins to ask questions, he gets push-back from everyone involved, including, strangely enough, the mob. As the investigation continues Rossi becomes embroiled in a world where he doesn't belong, until finally he is liked for another murder-one with even great repercussions. Now not only are the police watching him, but so are the mob, putting both his life and his livelihood in peril. Ignoring all the warning signs, Rossi finds out the hard way to beware of friends bearing gifts . . . or needing favors.
