Rum Curious

Martin Cate is a rum and exotic cocktail expert and the owner of Smuggler's Cove in San Francisco. He has been involved in the tiki and cocktail community since the late 1990s. His career in bartending began at Trader Vic's San Francisco. He land his wife Rebecca ater opened their own places, Forbidden Island in 2006, Smuggler's Cove in 2009, partnering with partners Alex Smith and John Park, he opened Whitechapel in San Francisco in 2015 and is co-owner of Hale Pele in Portland and a partner in Lost Lake in Chicago and False Idol in San Diego.

He is a member of the United States Bartenders Guild and a passionate rum collector who conducts educational seminars and adjudicates rum and cocktail competitions across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

He and his wife Rebecca are the authors of the New York Times Bestseller Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki.
