The Russian tortoise is a small tortoise species, with a size variety of 13-25 cm (5-10 in). Women grow barely large (15-25 cm [6-10 in]) to deal with more eggs. Adult males' common 13-20 cm (five-eight in). Russian tortoises are sexually dimorphic. Males generally tend to have longer tails commonly tucked to the aspect, and longer claws; women have a short, fat tail, with shorter claws than the men. The male has a slit-formed vent (cloacae) close to the end of its tail; the girl has an asterisk-formed vent (cloacae). Russian tortoises have 4 toes. Shade varies, however the shell is usually a ruddy brown or black, fading to yellow among the sautés, and the body is straw-yellow and brown depending on the subspecies. The male Russian tortoise courts a woman via head bobbing, circling, and biting her forelegs. When she submits, he mounts her from behind, making high-pitched squeaking noises for the duration of mating.
