Robert Dunbar was born in 1940. He received an undergraduate degree in English from Queen's University Belfast and an MA in English in Education at Ulster University. He lectured in children's literature at the Church of Ireland College of Education in Rathmines, Trinity College Dulbin, and St. Patrick's College, Dublin. He reviewed children's fiction for The Irish Times for more than 27 years. He edited two anthologies entitled Enchanted Journeys: Fifty Years of Irish Writing for Children and Skimming. He received a CBI Lifetime Achievement Award. He died after a long illness on July 20, 2016 at the age of 76.
