Author Biography
Yanez, Agustin (Author)
An important figure in Mexican public life, Yanez served as governor of his state of Jalisco, professor at the National University, and secretary of public education. Although not well known outside Mexico, he was a founder of the contemporary novel, and his The Edge of the Storm, published in 1947, has been termed by Walter M. Langford the single most important work in the history of the Mexican novel. Influenced by Dos Passos, Aldous Huxley, and James Joyce, Yanez brought the Mexican novel into the twentieth century in the areas of narrative technique and psychological penetration. The Edge of the Storm is the first of a trilogy, now including The Prodigal Land and The Lean Lands (1962).
