How many things do you like because the taste or smell of it reminds you of a childhood memory? How many things are we attached to because our senses tell us we need them? Sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, and the mind (which is the sixth sense, according to Eastern thought) all tell us who we are and inform us of the world in which we live.
