Summer after summer Carver lives beneath the wide open sky doing what he loves, and winter after winter he returns to the emptiness of civilization. His obsession with the far distant past and his own personal history prevent him from fully living in the present or considering the future. Then Carver makes the fossil find that could change his life. Surrounded at last by friends who help him realize the man he has the potential to become, Carver's new future begins to crumble as people around the discovery start dying under questionable circumstances.
