He needs to lay low, stay anonymous. But he's his own worse enemy, because his shroud of secrecy arouses the local's suspicions and his combative behavior puts them on edge. He's different, and the villagers don't tolerate different very well. So it's no surprise that when he lets slip a key detail in a girl's drowning ( a prime piece of evidence that the police had withheld from the public) the locals are eager to get revenge. Operating under the influences of coincidence, misperception and malice, when they unmask his true identity and Archie's unpopular acquittal of his wife and her lover's murder in Sedona, their misgivings are validated. They connect the dots of his ominous arrival with the child's tragedy, and jump to conclude that the young shrink got away with murder there and vow that he won't get away with it here.
