In the summer of 2012, youth known as "The South Dallas Poets" at the South Dallas Cultural Center, studied the most documented struggle in the U.S.A., the Civil Rights Movement along with the Black Power and Black Arts movements . They increased their knowledge and awareness of these historical times and wrote poetry that expressed their understanding of the time period, the struggles, and their hopes for future generations.
