Beginning around 1978, choice investigation interviews have been proposed to assist doctors with overseeing especially vexing clinical issues. Decisions that were deemed difficult required consultation because: 1) There was no clear diagnosis; 2) the effectiveness or risks of the available treatment were unknown; ( 3) The patient's short life expectancy limited the therapy's potential benefits; 4) the usual guidelines for administering the test or treatment were not followed because of an increased risk associated with the test or therapy; 5) the requirement for a restorative method was recognized, yet contending gambles with made vulnerability about the ideal timing of the technique; ( 6) It was difficult to determine the optimal sequence of multiple necessary procedures; 7) The patient's explicit participation in decision-making was required; ( 8) certain clinical data couldn't be deciphered without any problem; and (9) an uncommon, one-of-a-kind, or novel issue was discovered.
