More DescriptionStorybook illustration:Any type of picture or decorative work produced for books, specifically intended for a youthful audience or those young at heart. Illustrators reinforce the themes found in the text but also build out the world within the story. This can include genres ranging from children's stories to fantasy and sci-fi and can be found in illustrated stories, graphic novels, comic books, fiction, and nonfiction. Traditionally, illustrators are given someone else's ideas, either through a story, a specific character, or scenario. We are asked to create imagery to compliment those ideas. For the Storybook Project, Breadcrumbs Ink and Literati Press Comics & Novels are reversing the roles to provide a fun opportunity for creative expression as illustrators create an image first and authors then create a story to fit the imagined scene. This would allow illustrators to explore visual ideas without the constraints of a prewritten script and give authors a chance to be inspired by the images. Breadcrumbs Ink is a pair of illustrators working together to bring stories alive, transforming a written text into something that has a visual language of its own. We primarily focus on children's book illustrations, taking an author's ideas and creating a living world. We came together through friendship and a shared desire to grow as professionals. Both of us were working in a client-driven industry and were inspired to create and tell our own stories. Coming together allowed us to pool our talents to create something bigger than just what each of us could do on our own. Our first collaborative project was an Alice in Wonderland reimagining. This classic children's tale was a shared personal favorite, recreating the cast of characters was invigorating, allowing us to hone our collaborative skills and grow as artists, bringing new zeal to our client work and creating a path to tell our own stories.Literati Press Comics & Novels is a progressive publishing company located in the Paseo Arts District in Oklahoma City that views sequential art and traditional fiction as equally viable artistic mediums for storytelling.
