More DescriptionThe Friendship of the Fox is crafted based on the dialogue between the Sufi master Saadi and a rich merchant who has dreamed of dying. The rich merchant is known as the clever fox of the market. He has accumulated his wealth by praising other merchants and obtaining their trust and then taking advantage of his fellow merchants. This tale depicts the suffering of old age of the rich merchant. When the rich merchant asked the Sufi master: "Did you hear that the king of the market has died?" The Sufi master said in reply to the merchant, "Sure, are you worried?" "How much did he leave behind?" asked the rich merchant? The Sufi master with a large grin covering his face asked: "How much does one leave behind?"The rich merchant was puzzled at this point, and before he was able to say anything, the Sufi master said, "Everything of course! What do you expect? When one passes away, he/she leaves everything! Keep this in mind!"The worried look on the rich merchant's face became more intense. After a moment of silence he asked: "What is a healthy life?" The Sufi master replied "A healthy life is helping the needy, assisting the poor, and sharing your riches. Only then will the evil dreams avert you at night." The tale then goes on to depict the cleverness of the fox in praising and then deceiving other beings for the sake of winning at all costs. The Sufi Tale Series are presented in English and Persian.
