This is the tale of an American hero.
Never having met my Grandfather, I learned about his life from stories told to me by my father.
As one of America's early aviation pioneers, he logged over ten thousand flying hours. He flew in early barnstorming shows in the Southern United States and later flew airmail throughout South America and the Caribbean. He flew the great Ford Tri-Motors and Sikorsky's of our era.
After volunteering for World War II, his plane was shot down off the coast of Japan. Other pilots in his unit reported seeing his plane slowly descend towards the sea with smoke coming from two of the engines.
The other planes were low on fuel and had to return to base. No one ever reported seeing his plane crash into the sea. A search and rescue plane was dispatched to look for them. Unfortunately, his plane was never found. His crew was reported missing in action.
This book picks up where the others leave off. What if he successfully landed the plane on the water? Would he and his crew drown or be captured by the enemy? This book is a great tale of the unknown.
I dedicate this book to my wife, Jennifer, who has encouraged me to complete this work with her love and support.
