More DescriptionIn hopes of increasing Tom's potential as a salesman, Tom's boss sends our hero to the driving range to learn the game of golf. It's there that Tom meets Marty, the wolfish local golf pro and at the same time discovers the tingling lust of a well struck 5-iron, and embarks on a decade's long search for the perfect swing. Never again will he go to sleep dreaming of blondes, brunettes or red-heads, instead he satisfies himself with fantasies of high-lofted iron shots landing softly on dew covered greens and long, undulating putts diving into vulnerable pin placements. Almost from the start Tom believes he has been chosen for greatness and is somehow channeling the spirit of the great Ben Hogan, possibly the greatest golfer of all time. In due course we meet Tom's favorite playing partners: Tank, who smokes and drinks his way through his rounds, Father Charlie, the local parish priest who entertains the foursome by sharing the most delicate secrets picked up in the confessional, and Silverstein, a prominent gynecologist who thrills his friends by describing the private parts of every woman in town in exquisite detail.Meanwhile, Tom's wife Carol has been raising their twin sons, pursuing a new age spiritual journey of her own while keeping a worried eye on Tom's increasingly erratic behavior. When Tom arrives an hour late for the twin's sixteenth birthday party, announcing to anyone in earshot that he's finally found the secret of the swing, Carol begins to suspect that the grip of golf might be as dangerous and powerful as a narcotic. To confirm her suspicions Carol seeks out two other golf widows for advice where she hears one woman declare that golf has ruined their sex life. "My husband wouldn't have sex with me now even if I painted myself green and stuck a flag between my legs!" The other demands that golf should be registered with the Federal Government as a controlled substance like drugs or alcohol. Could something as innocent as golf become an addiction that's a serious threat to her family, even the community at large? Frightened by what she sees Carol forces Tom to choose: "It's either me or golf!"Tom, in the company of his spirit guide Hogan, secretly quits his job and takes his passion for golf underground, suiting up and kissing Carol on the cheek each day while pretending to go to work. Instead, he motors around the countryside playing challenging courses and perfecting his swing at every driving range he can find. When Tom's deceit explodes in his face and Carol discovers his betrayal, Tom throws his clubs over his shoulder and flees. He embarks on an epic journey to South Carolina on a quest to discover the secret of the 'Hogan Swing.' Finally able to focus solely on golf without the interference of work and family Tom swings his way to a whole new level of play, makes a pilgrimage to the Mecca of golf, Augusta National, and even gets his first job in the golf industry.Discovering that her husband has shuttered the family business and eloped with his golf clubs Carol sets out to discover what happened. Detective-like, she peels back the underbelly of the golf world, interviewing friends and foe alike until she meets face to face with her arch enemy, the great seducer himself, Tom's infamous golf instructor, Marty. Sparks fly. Magic happens.
