More DescriptionIn the 19th century, the first Protestant missionaries to the Middle East decided to work apart from and against the indigenous Orthodox Churches of the region. One of these early missionaries even referred to Orthodox Christianity as "that wicked system." Today, should evangelical mission agencies continue with the same strategy and the same attitude? This was the question we raised in 1992 when Turning Over a New Leaf was first published. Back then, it was the first modern mission study to explore cooperation between evangelical mission agencies and the Orthodox Churches of the region. At the time, a number of reviewers called the book "historic" for its implications. Now, with a new generation of mission personnel, the question still remains relevant and New Leaf continues to issue a thoughtful challenge for evangelical Protestants to become more sensitive to the whole Christian movement in the region. This is the original 1992 report, updated with the latest available information.
